Haha! Well done Mr Bilton for submitting to 60 Odd and thank you Mr O'B for publishing! What a refreshing take on 'gritty realism' with humour that's funny - rather than pretentious. Perhaps it's because I have sampled allotments with bonfires that lifted the neighbourhood, though my lot clashed with the scooterati:). I saw Drury too but was more inclined to Dire Straights (really? yes I admit) than Drs of Madness etc.
Such clever use of language and manipulation of themes. Again I feel I should emphasise that take on the norm: exploding Zippo or stangulated duck for example as reminiscent of a youth parallel to my own. Thank you
Really enjoyed the images you have woven, and I smiled at so many memories. I enjoyed the enjambment in 'Brooklyn 7.35am' (I am weird, like that haha. Obsessed with line breaks!!)
'Wendy House' took me back to the 70s! Mods, scooter gangs xx
Very nice. I do like the vignettes of the allotment poem;
"She kept her seeds in a shortbread tin
And her husband’s ashes
In a quiet corner near the sprouts."
Excellent stuff.
As always, superb words Chris.... You can always put a smile on my face..
